To explore the potential role of the natural landscape in Computer Art, specifically Virtual Reality, I have designed and constructed a device that will simulate the experience of hang gliding. The viewer will be suspended in a harness from the device pictured below. Through a head-mounted display, he or she will be immersed in a computer-generated flight simulation through various natural landscapes. The controller will then regulate the fan speed ("wind") and the viewer's physical orientation based on the visual images.
